Ohio Buyer’s Guide
Best Electronics & Product Development Firms in Ohio (2026)
There is no single best electronics or product development firm in Ohio — the right one depends on what is hardest about your product. For research, industrial design and engineering under one roof, look at Nottingham Spirk (Cleveland), Kaleidoscope Innovation (Cincinnati) and Priority Designs (Columbus). For embedded firmware and electronics, look at USA Firmware (Brecksville) and CopperTrace Technologies (Cincinnati). For design that moves straight into U.S. production, consider ADL Technology (Columbus) and ANZER (Akron). Kyros Engineering (Cleveland), which wrote this guide, is best for startups and medical or other regulated device teams that need senior-led electronics and firmware, starting with a two-week, $5,000 fixed Architecture & Roadmap Study.
How to choose
What to look for
Start from your hardest constraint
Decide what is most likely to sink the product: the electronics, the industrial design, the regulatory file or the move to production. Ohio has strong firms for each of those, and they are rarely the same firm.
Match the firm to the program
A large studio can staff research, design and engineering in parallel. A small team puts senior engineers on your problem directly. Neither is better in general — one is better for your program and your budget.
Meet the people doing the work
Ask whether the electronics and firmware are designed in-house, and by whom. Ask to meet the engineers on the delivery plan, not only the people on the sales call. That applies to every firm on this page, including us.
Ask for evidence and ownership
For a regulated product, ask who issued each certification and what it covers. For any product, confirm in writing that you receive editable schematics, PCB files, firmware source and BOMs at handoff.
How Kyros compares
| Criterion | Kyros Engineering | Common industry failure mode |
|---|---|---|
| First conversation | Principal engineer asks about architecture, risk and budget | Salesperson quotes a team size |
| Who does the work | Named senior engineers, introduced before signing | Senior people on the sales call, juniors on delivery |
| First paid step | Two-week Architecture & Roadmap Study, $5,000 fixed | A large proposal before anything has been built |
| When bring-up stalls | Root-caused on the bench with a probe and a scope | Blame the board and wait |
| Handoff | You own the schematics, PCB files, firmware source and BOMs | Dependence by design |
Ohio electronics and product development firms, and what each is best for
Disclosure: Kyros Engineering wrote this page and is one of the firms on it. This is not a ranking and nobody paid to be listed. Firms appear alphabetically with Kyros last, every entry comes from that firm’s own website and public listings, and the failure modes above describe the industry, not anyone named here. Frequently asked
When is Kyros the wrong choice?
When the program needs research, industrial design, mechanical engineering and electronics staffed in parallel at scale, a full-service studio such as Nottingham Spirk, Kaleidoscope Innovation or Priority Designs is built for that. When you want design to flow straight into U.S. production with the same team, ADL Technology, ANZER or Henway Technologies fit better. When you need engineers added to your own team under your direction, USA Firmware offers staff augmentation and Kyros does not. We are a small senior team, and we say so.
Which Ohio firms design custom electronics?
Electronics specialists include USA Firmware (Brecksville), CopperTrace Technologies (Cincinnati), Embedded Wizardry (Grafton), Envision Electronics Design (Dayton) and Kyros Engineering (Cleveland). ADL Technology (Columbus), ANZER (Akron) and Henway Technologies (Hudson) pair electronics design with in-house manufacturing. Nottingham Spirk, Kaleidoscope Innovation, Priority Designs, Prodigy and The Metcalfe Group handle electronics as part of full product development.
Who does PCB design in Cleveland?
In Cleveland and Northeast Ohio, Nottingham Spirk (Cleveland) designs PCBs inside full product programs; Henway Technologies (Hudson) and ANZER (Akron) pair PCB design with in-house assembly; USA Firmware (Brecksville) and Embedded Wizardry (Grafton) combine hardware design with firmware; and Kyros Engineering (Cleveland) does senior-led PCB, power and mixed-signal design alongside the firmware.
How much does product development cost in Ohio?
It depends on scope far more than on the city: how many boards, how complex the firmware, whether certification or FDA evidence is required, and how many disciplines run in parallel. For reference, Kyros’s numbers are public: engagements start with a two-week Architecture & Roadmap Study at $5,000 fixed; bounded build work (one board, one firmware deliverable) commonly runs $8K–$20K, quoted phase by phase; and the published rate is $250/hr. Whoever you hire, ask for the rate, the estimated hours by phase and what is excluded.
Why does this page name competitors?
Because a guide that only recommends its author is an advertisement. Kyros Engineering wrote this page and is one of the firms on it, so every other entry is described from that firm’s own website and public listings, and the table says plainly where another firm is the better fit. A buyer should be able to use this page without ever calling us.
Did anyone pay to be listed?
No. There is no paid placement, affiliate arrangement or reciprocal-link deal behind this page. Firms are included because their own public materials show real electronics or product development work, and every fact comes from those materials and public listings, checked in October 2026.
